Assistant Actuary, Corporate Modeling

The Assistant Actuary will support embedded value, economic capital, own risk and solvency assessment, and earnings at risk initiatives. The individual in this role will primarily contribute to Principles-Based Economic Capital reporting, along with supporting the development, maintenance, and use of enhanced actuarial projection capabilities. The Assistant Actuary will support validation and analysis of Principles-Based Initiative projections and provide user support for all Corporate Modeling initiatives and the tools that support them. This role involves extensive interaction with other RGA departments and offices to ensure that work products are accurate, reliable, and completed in a timely fashion.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to the production of Principles-Based Economic Capital reporting
  • Support enhancements for the Company's projection and planning infrastructure through model development and collaboration with Information Technology
  • Assist in the development of model calculations, data flows, process automation, and other technical aspects
  • Support model runs and ensuring results are reliable, resolve any issues
  • Work to ensure that all lines of business and company risks have been modeled in a reasonable, accurate, and repeatable manner
  • Develop and execute project plans to meet department goals
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and perform other duties as required



Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field
  • ASA accreditation
  • 3+ years of actuarial experience in the life insurance industry


Preferred:

  • Reinsurance experience
  • Experience in actuarial modeling
  • Experience in financial planning, embedded value reporting and/or economic capital determination


Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Advanced PC and technical skills, including computer programming, database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology) and spreadsheets
  • Ability to compile, analyze, refine, and interpret large amounts of financial data/results and model projections
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey complex ideas in a way that is understandable by all stakeholders
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including valuation, risk management, investments, finance, accounting, and systems
  • Advanced investigative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of life, health, and annuity products
  • Knowledge of GAAP, Statutory and Tax valuation and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of one or more actuarial modeling systems
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to simultaneously contribute to multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to balance detail with department goals and objectives


Preferred:

  • Advanced project management skills, demonstrating an ability to leverage various resources and tools to reach a common goal
  • Prior experience with and ability to program in Prophet, VBA, and SQL
  • Reinsurance industry and product knowledge
  • In depth understanding of economic capital and embedded value methodologies
  • Familiarity with life insurance company financial statements

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $82,790 to $124,985 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA compensation includes an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and maintains a full range of competitive health and life insurance, retirement and other employee benefits.
