Pricing Actuary

JOB PURPOSE/ROLE

Taking an active part in guiding and steering the exposures in the portfolio and as part of that will inform appropriate pricing strategies to enable
AGCS to meet long-term profit targets. You will provide advice and tools that enable execution of these strategies and support in the monitoring of outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain pricing tools, in particular, this involves refinement of the tools through recalibrations and the development of appropriate statistical pricing methodologies
  • Carry out deep-dive profitability reviews (both proactively and in response to concerning leading KPIs). This will involve analysis of the profitability of individual accounts and/or business segments, as required
  • Ensure that the results of such analyses lead to meaningful portfolio actions and are reflected in technical pricing models as appropriate
  • Establish an excellent working relationship with Underwriting and senior management to ensure their long-term support for technical pricing concepts and pricing tools
  • Understand market developments globally and ensure that loss trends, both prospective and retrospective, are understood and reflected in our underwriting activities.

    KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

    Required experience:
  • Business experience, preferable on actuarial pricing P&C
  • Experience with Specialty line
  • Proven experience in communication of results to stakeholders
  • Proven experience in international working environment (incl. business trips)
  • Proven experience in developing/ enhancing and implementing models / analysis and processes

    Required education:
  • Excellent tertiary qualification (ideally Master), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline or qualified by experience in related discipline
  • Nearly or Newly Qualified Actuary

    Technical skills:
  • Extensive computer skills (MS Office incl. VBA and relevant expert systems such as Matlab, R, SQL or Java, etc.)
  • Job specific knowledge with regards to underwriting dynamics, standard concepts and approaches, regulations / compliance standards, reporting requirements (e.g. reinsurance and underwriting knowledge, actuarial pricing techniques, data flows, etc.)

    General skills:
  • Analytical Thinking and Numeracy: Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex (e.g. ambiguous, from various sources) data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations
  • Communication and Presentation Skills: Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively in respect to the audience / level of management (both verbal and in writing)
  • Influencing Others: The ability to positively influence others' actions, decisions, opinions or thinking resulting in positive outcomes. Ability to persuade and motivate others without direct authority
  • Problem Solving Ability: Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract / ambiguous and follow through on their remediation. Ability to anticipate and resolve issues before they transpire.
