Pricing Actuary

Position Overview

  • Participate in the development of new offers by providing technical expertise and market knowledge.
  • Evaluate the underwritten risks and be responsible of risk management in compliance with the group's pricing guidelines and standards.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure allowing the assessment of these risks.


Pricing databases

  • Contribute to the development of the "French and Belgian Mandates", in particular by building pricing bases and developing pricing tools
  • Contribute to the improvement of pricing bases and enrich RGA's knowledge of the various risks
  • Study the experience of risks insured by cedants and "market" information

Risk modeling

  • Be proactive to improve assessment tools, modeling of underwritten risks and risk bases
  • Develop local technical expertise on subjects / risks related to the strategy of the group / office
  • Respect RGA guidelines and best practices and be able to explain these approaches

Pricing & Risk Management

Be responsible for its pricing files for, monitoring processes and maintaining risk management in accordance with RGA standards:

  • Scope:

o Worldwide: pricing of reinsurance treaties in excess of catastrophe loss and management of retrocession for all the treaties signed by RGA

o France / Benelux: pricing of all reinsurance treaties taken out by the France office

  • On offers

o Work in partnership with the Business Developer to qualify the client's needs, propose the most relevant solutions (product, reinsurance structure, management, etc.) and explain the resulting prices

Obtain, while ensuring compliance with the standards in force, the validations

. pricing with the manager designated by the processes in force

. legal with the "Legal Counsel" for any deviation from the standard RGA clauses while benefiting from the support of the referent treated

o Check the conformity and adequacy of the pricing offer before final dispatch and validate that the various internal processes have been respected (sign-off, non-standard clauses, etc.)

  • On contractual documents

o Revision of treaties to ensure the adequacy of the treaty with the pricing offer

o Coordination with the Business Developer and the referent in order to obtain the appropriate legal validations (geographical limitation, particular exposures to unreferenced clauses, etc.)

  • On administrative aspects

o Provision to management teams of tools to simplify the reconciliation of ceding figures (premiums, provisions) for long-term business as well as for the calculation of provisions

o One-off methodological review on cases requiring actuarial support to ensure the consistency and proper application of treaties (accounts, reconciliation of premiums, etc.)

Risk management and portfolio monitoring

  • Be a reference on technical subjects / areas of expertise to train or support members of the pricing team or other teams
  • On the perimeter of his/her "business / portfolios", have a pro-active role in coordination with his/her manager to ensure the technical monitoring of the stock by ensuring, for example, that the assumptions used and the principles underlying the pricing of the business is well respected or that the risks are well monitored
  • Production of ad-hoc reports related to underwriting and business management (exposure management, campaign report)

Public Relations

  • Participate in conferences and seminars on insurance and reinsurance to follow all the developments that may impact pricing (legal developments, new products, customer relations, etc.)
  • Participate in customer meetings and be able to enrich technical and product discussions with customers


- Actuarial diploma with at least 7 years of experience in life insurance or reinsurance
- Knowledge and understanding of individual risk factors (mortality, disability / invalidity, dependency)
- Knowledge of the French borrower and key protection markets

- Good interpersonal skills (interaction with different teams within the organization, at different level) and writing
- Strong team spirit and collaboration
- Proactive team player who can also work on own initiative
- Ability to manage time and priorities, autonomy
- Customer satisfaction orientation
- Global understanding of the issues: actuarial, risk-management, contractual, business
- Strong IT skills in: MS Office (Excel, Word, Access,) and actuarial software
- Operational level of English
