Pricing Actuary - Chicago

JOB PURPOSE/ROLE

You will take an active part in guiding and steering the exposures in the portfolio. You will inform appropriate pricing strategies to enable AGCS to meet long-term profit targets. You will provide advice and tools that enable execution of these strategies and provide support in monitoring outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain pricing tools, in particular, this involves refinement of the tools through recalibrations and the development of appropriate statistical pricing methodologies.
  • Carry out deep-dive profitability reviews (both proactively and in response to concerning leading KPIs). This will involve analysis of the profitability of individual accounts and/or business segments, as required.
  • Ensure that the results of such analyses lead to meaningful portfolio actions and are reflected in technical pricing models as appropriate.
  • Establish an excellent working relationship with Underwriting and senior management to ensure their long-term support for technical pricing concepts and pricing tools.
  • Understand market developments globally and ensure that loss trends, both prospective and retrospective, are understood and reflected in our underwriting activities.

    KEY REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

  • At least 4 years of business experience as an Actuary (P&C experience preferred);
  • Experience with Specialty Lines (Entertainment Lines knowledge a plus);
  • Proven experience communicating results to stakeholders;
  • Proven experience working in international environment (including business trips);
  • Demonstrable experience in developing/enhancing and implementing models/analyses and processes;
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office - including VBA and relevant expert systems such as Python, R, SQL, SAS, etc.);
  • Job specific knowledge with regards to underwriting dynamics, standard concepts and approaches, regulations/compliance standards, reporting requirements (e.g., reinsurance and underwriting knowledge, actuarial pricing techniques, data flows, etc.);
  • Ability to identify patterns and root causes in complex (e.g., ambiguous, from various sources) data and processes to rapidly distill key issues and provide insight in various situations;
  • Ability to understand, elaborate and convey information clearly and effectively with respect to the audience/level of management (both verbally and in writing);
  • The ability to positively influence others' actions, decisions, opinions or thinking resulting in positive outcomes;
  • Ability to persuade and motivate others without direct authority;
  • Ability to identify and initiate appropriate actions to remediate issues that can be abstract/ambiguous and follow through on their remediation;
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve issues before they transpire;
  • Bachelor's Degree (ideally Master's), preferably in Mathematics, Statistics or other appropriate discipline or qualified by experience in related discipline;
  • ACAS or near preferred; and
  • Willingness to travel.
