Executive Director & Actuary, Audit Pricing Valuation and Model Governance

Position Overview

The Executive Director & Actuary, Audit Pricing Valuation and Model Governance utilizes actuarial background and leadership skills to lead and manage internal audit activities over pricing and valuation risks for the RGA global enterprise, contributing to the strategic development and execution of the annual audit plan for functions which contain actuarial elements (pricing/valuation/model governance).

This role oversees and directs the day-to-day internal audit operations in these areas to ensure that both the technical aspects of the pricing and valuation risks are identified, understood, and assessed for adherence to established policies and procedures.

This Executive Director ensures audit activities are aligned and coordinated with the business units and external auditor; designs and develops audit programs and procedures to achieve integrated assurance; reviews, evaluates and presents audit results to senior/executive management and audit committees; and recommends business process control improvements.

Responsibilities

Leads and manages internal audit activity for pricing and valuation audits, including model governance to ensure appropriate governance is in place and corporate and local policies and guidelines are followed. Conducts risk assessments to support audit plan recommendations. Directly participates in and advises team during operational/financial audits and other audits where actuarial expertise can be leveraged. Supports managing resources of internal and external actuarial expertise can be leveraged. Supports managing resources of internal and external actuarial subject matter experts. Communicates with key actuarial business leaders and documents findings and recommendations as well as risk remediation exercises.

  • Develops/maintains relationships with senior/executive business leaders within Finance, Valuation, Pricing, the business, and corporate control functions.
  • Ability to interface with actuarial and asset modeling teams, challenging and/or validating assumptions used.
  • Ability to analyze the design and critically assess the pricing of the Company's Reinsurance and alternative capital transactions.
  • Understanding of experience studies, data analysis, protective value.
  • Highly advanced PC skills, including spreadsheet, database, and actuarial projection tools (e.g., AXIS, TAS, MoSes, Prophet).
  • Demonstrated understanding of reinsurance concepts and methods.
  • Understanding of design, risks and critical assumptions relating to a broad array of life, annuity, and other protection products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of life insurance products and pricing methods.
  • Advanced actuarial technical skills.
  • Align with the strategic direction of the Company strategy and broader internal audit department strategy, as a member of the Global Audit Management Team (GAMT).
  • Interface with key stakeholders to correctly review the assumptions made and assess the propriety of pricing programs aligned with product/sales strategy and revenue recognition requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring the ongoing business environment and understanding the development and analysis of pricing models and projections.
  • Knowledge of pricing and valuations tools, techniques, and methods; ability to assess analytical and pricing models using statistical principles.
  • Knowledge of reinsurance activities and considerations; ability to understand reinsurance practices including all standards, applicable laws, and regulations.


Align and coordinate audit activities with the business units. Acts as liaison between internal management, external audit, and business associates, including:

  • Contacts internal management to discuss and agree on audit objectives, scope, and timing of audits. Responds to requests from other functional areas on various inquiries.
  • Coordinates audit resources, procedures, and requirements necessary to complete audits in a timely manner.
  • Makes oral and written presentations to senior/executive management at the conclusion of audits.
  • Supervises the preparation of audit reports to internal and external company executives summarizing audit objectives, scope, findings and conclusions, and managements' response.


Coordinates audit activities of the audit staff, including:

  • Provides expertise to the staff regarding business risks, audit procedures and audit tools.
  • Coordinates with the team executing audit procedures, work paper documentation and audit conclusion for completeness.
  • Coordinate with and supervise internal specialists and external resources.
  • Recommends changes to audit procedures to enhance efficiency and respond to change.



Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance or other quantitative field.
  • FSA accreditation.
  • People management experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive actuarial experience in life, annuity, and/or reinsurance.


Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Professional experience working in a complex, global corporation with advanced understanding of Global Life insurance and reinsurance markets.
  • Experience pricing more than one product line (e.g., life, annuities, etc.).
  • Experience in one or more actuarial functions other than pricing products (e.g., asset/liability management, valuation, risk management, model management, economic capital management, etc.).
  • Ability to connect across disciplines, systems savvy, understanding larger organizational context, having situational fluency/adaptability, cultivating a valuable network of contacts, and understanding and leveraging diverse perspectives.
  • Highly advanced project management skills. Demonstrates an ability to evaluate project objectives and scope for feasibility and understanding.
  • Exceptional ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation of initiatives, programs, and policies.
  • Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines.

The general pay range for this position is $132,000-202,000 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement and other employee benefits.
