VP - Life Actuary

Position Overview

Leads, manages, and directs the development of pricing and risk analysis for opportunities within RGA's US Mortality Markets. Provides critical pricing information and actuarial expertise for key stakeholders including department management, Business Development and Facultative Underwriting. Performs appropriate review and/or development of financial projections for potential reinsurance transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads pricing and risk analysis to set the parameters for US Mortality Markets new reinsurance transactions.
  • Authorized to sign quote offers and treaties
  • Works closely with Business Development or acquisition team to understand the risks and reinsurance needs.
  • Directs development, develops and/or reviews financial models of reinsurance transactions.
  • Sets assumptions based on thorough risk analysis including experience analysis.
  • Manages maintenance of documentation of pricing analysis including assumptions used, experience analysis performed, results analysis and peer review.
  • Performs peer reviews of other pricing work.
  • Reviews treaty language pertaining to pricing analysis.
  • Follows RGA pricing standards.
  • Manages provision of pricing and product information to USMM administration.
  • Serves as leader and participates in special projects, committees, meetings and client presentations as required.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics or related field
  • FSA accreditation
  • 10+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance and/or reinsurance
  • Highly advanced actuarial technical skills
  • Intermediate PC skills and advanced understanding of actuarial systems - including spreadsheet, database, and actuarial projection tools (AXIS, TAS, ALFA, MoSes)
  • Expert knowledge of life insurance products
  • Advanced understanding of reinsurance concepts and methods
  • Advanced ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures
  • Advanced ability to challenge and enhance analytical capabilities
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of GAAP, statutory and tax accounting and reporting
  • Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership.
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members.
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt new methods; work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Expert skills in managing multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously
  • Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.
  • Highly advanced ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through exceptional leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers.
  • Expert ability to work well within and manage a team.

  • Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines
  • Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems
  • Must be able to travel as required.


Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of AXIS
  • Familiarity with database applications.
  • Advanced life insurance and/or reinsurance industry and product knowledge.
  • Member, American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA)
  • 5-7+ years of supervisory experience

Pay is based on a number of factors, including market, a candidate's skills, and experience commensurate with a role, etc. salary range: $143,245 - $213,390 + bonus
