A Brief Overview
Provides leadership to the Valuation Team for the local business to achieve defined outcomes in a timely basis. Supports the business by advising on actuarial and valuation topics arising from the company's growth and development of reinsurance and other financial solutions. Establish effective communication with the businesses to provide the local management team with the information they need to successfully grow the business. Ensuring the valuation activities are adequately maintained and comply with internal and external reporting requirements. Development, maintenance and continued refinement / improvement of tools and processes for the team. Development and coaching of associates to improve team performance and align with corporate goals and values.
What You Will Do
- Lead the Valuation Team business and be responsible for all aspects of valuation including the development of appropriate reporting bases and actuarial models to deliver results required for regulatory (including US Statutory and Japan Statutory and Japan Economic Solvency Ratio), US Tax, and US GAAP reporting on a timely basis.
- Fulfill the duties necessary for sign-off of results as required by local regulations, of the 'Senior Actuary' as defined in local regulations for independent sign-off of local reporting as necessary.
- Oversee production of and review results for other corporate initiatives such as embedded value, principles-based Economic Capital, and ORSA (Own Risk Self Assessment).
- Lead, develop and coach the associates in the local Valuation team to align with corporate goals and values, and to develop a high performing team.Foster a positive and engaged work environment.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of valuation results with applicable standards and best practice, including formal sign-off of the valuation results. This includes the approval of the valuation basis (method and assumptions) and business planning analysis.
- Review experience studies and actuarial analysis on current in-force business to support valuation assumption setting and business planning following applicable corporate guidance.
- Carry out duties with integrity and diligence, ensuring that professional standards are maintained, that reporting deadlines are met, that records are maintained and that actuarial processes are fit for purpose and meet internal and regulatory requirements.
- Assisting the Risk Management function in the assessing and reporting of risks, including, specifically, capital risk as it relates to local capital standards.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments and advise local management of the implications and business opportunities.
- Participate in appropriate industry conferences, associations and task forces as appropriate.
- Support cross-functional collaboration on projects as required.
- Supporting the SVP, Chief Valuation Actuary, Asia on other initiatives, as required.
Qualifications
- Ability to speak, read and write fluently in Japanese and English.
- Fully qualified Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Japan (FIAJ) or another recognized international actuarial associations (FSA, FIA, FFA, FIAA, etc.)
- At least 10 years' relevant experience, with significant experience in financial reporting and/or related analytical role
- Expert understanding of Japanese regulations and statutory valuation and capital requirements
- At least 5 years' people management experience
- Expert understanding of local market and regulatory environment and ability to understand and explain , US GAAP valuation, and other statutory valuation or capital frameworks
- Expert understanding of the bases behind assumptions driving reinsurance pricing and valuation
- Strong people management and leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility
- Strong analytical, data management skills, work attitudes to details and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A high level of personal accountability and integrity
