Position Overview

The project portfolio manager is responsible for strategically governing the COO organization's full portfolio of projects to achieve critical objectives while optimizing key business objectives. This involves evaluating project scope to prioritize and guide project alignment with strategic objectives. It includes monitoring resource allocations across projects, monitoring overall portfolio performance, managing portfolio financials, partnership with IT leadership and reporting status to executive leadership. A critical responsibility is defining metrics to measure and facilitate the realization of targeted business benefits and outcomes from the portfolio. The role ultimately ensures the health of the collective project portfolio and drives continuous improvement in portfolio management practices over time.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio strategy and planning: Conduct annual strategic planning to define portfolio roadmaps and investment priorities. Evaluate proposed projects through business case analysis, scoring models, and prioritization frameworks. Create and manage Portfolio Roadmap to track progress and dependencies, keep teams aligned on priorities, and track delivery of business value
  • Resource management: Forecast resource demands across all portfolio projects. Ensure skilled staff, vendors, and contingent workers are aligned to highest priority initiatives
  • Portfolio monitoring and control: Implement portfolio dashboards to track standard metrics (schedule, cost, scope, risks, etc.). Conduct regular portfolio reviews and status reporting to leadership
  • Financial management: Develop and maintain integrated portfolio budget and financial forecasts. Monitors spend levels across all projects and identify budget/cost variance issues
  • Benefit realization: Define and measure key benefits metrics/KPIs to track expected business outcomes across the portfolio. Implement processes to monitor, validate, and report on benefits actually realized from project investments
  • Support COO with key business initiatives including but not limited to executive presentations, annual budgeting cycle, special projects, or other key business responsibilities
  • Leadership and Business Acumen: Lead and coach project teams across diverse initiatives in a fast-paced environment



Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) required
  • Advanced degree in a technology, program management, or financial-related field preferred
  • 10+ Years of experience in life and health insurance, actuarial, and/or product management required
  • Proven track record of leading transformative projects and teams with a strategic and analytical approach to problem-solving. required
  • Highly advanced communication and leadership skills, capable of mentoring teams and steering multiple projects with strategic finesse and technical acumen. required
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools required

Compensation Range:
$175,650.00 - $261,600.00 Annual

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
