ACTUARY, GROUP ACTUARIAL

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director & Actuary, Group Reinsurance, the Actuary will be a key member of RGA's Group Reinsurance team focused on excellent client service and building a strong profitable portfolio of Group reinsurance. The incumbent will be responsible for the pricing of reinsurance quotes for new business, renewals, and special quotations as well as managing and delivering value-add actuarial services and special projects. As part of a creative, dynamic and client focus team, the employee will be exposed to a variety of special projects that will capitalize on his creative and analytic mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the pricing of reinsurance quotes for new businesses, renewals, and special quotations with respect to all lines of group and creditor benefits within agreed timelines.
  • Collaborate with and train pricing analysts and interns and provide guidance.
  • Support the director in the development, implementation, and maintenance of actuarial models for projections of cash flows, reserves, capital, and embedded values for financial reporting.
  • Be an important actuarial contact with internal and targeted external contacts, develop relationships and build trust.
  • Support the development of client pricing proposals and communication.
  • Maintain the profit monitoring tool and products of the quarterly report.
  • Produce required internal reports.
  • Prepare or review client profit sharing statement.
  • Manage the annual plan process in collaboration with the Director.
  • Provide group pricing expert advice to support client requests and inquiries.
  • Lead or provide key support in special projects.



Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • 10 years + of group pricing experience (reinsurance experience would be an asset)
  • FSA Designation
  • Software proficiency: MS Office, AXIS
  • Willingness to travel (5-15%)


Preferred:

  • Bilingual, English and French, spoken and written


Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of group insurance products
  • In-depth experience of group insurance pricing including relevant insurance regulatory laws and their impact on products and client company operations
  • Solid actuarial technical skills with a strong understanding of the factors that shape product profitability
  • Exposure to financial reporting, corporate functions, and/or risk management is an asset
  • Creative and flexible while showing good judgment
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sense of organization and detail-oriented
  • Self-managing with an ability to take initiative
  • Results-oriented and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple activities
