Senior Assistant Actuary

Position Overview

Provide support for the actuarial work and analysis of financial risks facing the business in the US and Latin America traditional markets on both inforce and new business. Such support might include historical analysis of financials/cash flows, understanding experience study results, validating and modifying projection models, assessing potential risks and financial impacts and outcomes for RGA, and establishing inforce and risk management frameworks for the business. Communicate the findings and recommendations in a professional manner and preparing materials that will be shared with internal management and/or clients to inform and enable decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or provide support ad hoc analyses to increase understanding of block performance characteristics or financial risk exposure, reviewing and/or developing actuarial assumptions, sensitivity tests, financial models and projections.
  • Assist with proposing and/or evaluating potential management actions by performing risk analyses to assess the impact on current and future overall financials, risk exposure, and other business considerations.
  • Assist with evaluating transactions that expose RGA to new risks, structures, or markets.
  • Summarize and communicate findings, results, and contextual information with clear and impactful messaging appropriate to audience and purpose.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and perform peer reviews as needed.
  • Work with others in the team and/or other departments to ensure appropriate analyses, key deliverables, and related, necessary actions are completed in a timely manner, as determined by project and business needs.
  • Foster positive relationships, collaborate, and communicate professionally with key stakeholders and business partners .
  • Participate in special projects, committees, meetings, and presentations with internal or external audiences as needed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as required.



Requirements

Education and Experience
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Economics, Statistics or related field
• ASA accreditation and one FSA exam
• 4+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance/reinsurance

Preferred:
• MAAA accreditation
• 6+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance/reinsurance
• Experience working in cross-functional teams
• Master's degree in Math, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Economics, Statistics or related fieldSkills and Abilities

Skills and Abilities

Required:

• Demonstrated knowledge of life reinsurance products pricing and/or valuation
• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax accounting and reporting and other forms of financial and risk measurement such as embedded value and capital frameworks
• Advanced PC and technical skills, including database applications (Tableau, Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology), spreadsheets, statistical programs and actuarial software (Prophet, MoSes, TAS, AXIS, or equivalent).
• Intermediate ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures.
• Intermediate ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions
• Intermediate investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
• Consistently produce high-quality work and associated documentation with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt new methods, multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and balance priorities
• Intermediate oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all stakeholders, including customers and associates.
• Intermediate interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including pricing, finance, accounting, systems, and administration.
• Ability to work independently and to work well within a team environment and participate in department projects.
• Ability to proactively anticipate project needs and independently work to fulfill them.
• General business knowledge.

Preferred:

• Intermediate knowledge of RGA's USMM, Individual Health, or Group business and systems.
• Intermediate US reinsurance industry and direct life/health product knowledge.
• Intermediate ALM or Financial Risk Management knowledge.

State of Colorado: This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. The pay range for this position in Colorado is $88,405-125,000 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA compensation includes an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and maintains a full range of competitive health and life insurance, retirement and other employee benefits.
