German Actuarial Association prioritises AI

Written by Henning Wergen, Managing Director of the German Actuarial Association (DAV) and member of the Artificial Intelligence Task Force of the International Actuarial Association (IAA).  Henning Wergen, Managing Director German Actuarial Association (DAV)

As a professional organisation representing more than 6,500 colleagues in Germany, the German Association of Actuaries considers AI to be  a key issue . More and more specific use cases are being introduced – and development is continuing at a rapid pace. A working group of the DAV's Executive Board is examining the relevant issues from a strategic perspective and is dealing with the following topics:

  1. Technical aspects: How can actuaries use AI? What are the use cases? What are the regulatory requirements?
  2. Professional considerations: How is the actuarial profession changing? How does AI help make the profession more attractive? What are the implications for professional rules and standards?
  3. Qualification: Which content is relevant for initial training and which is relevant for the continuing education of existing members? How do we ensure an interface with research and other stakeholders?
  4. AI in the association: How can applying AI support actuarial work in the DAV? How does the actuarial community work together internationally on AI?

AI will become increasingly important for actuaries in the coming months. The DAV has set itself the goal of clearly highlighting the added value for the actuarial profession.
