The search for jobs has changed dramatically. Whereas jobs used to be advertised in daily newspapers, applicants now search the internet for suitable job adverts. Job portals offer thousands of new jobs every day, which have to be filtered and sorted according to profession, field of work and location. Especially professions in a niche sector require long and persistent online searches on various portals or on individual company websites. How job seeking for actuaries should be facilitated is demonstrated  by the platform www.actupool.com, which offers an ideal solution as a specialised platform for actuaries and for companies looking for actuaries.

With the launch of a careers platform for actuaries, the professional association of actuaries and financial mathematicians - the German Association of Actuaries (DAV) - has created a special service for its members and for companies looking for actuaries. "Actuaries are highly sought-after experts - many insurance and financial companies have knocked on our door and asked whether we can support them in their search for qualified employees," says Michael Steinmetz, CEO of the DAV. The search for highly-qualified experts in the field of actuarial and financial mathematical is very difficult for companies, since the small target group of actuaries is difficult to reach via wide-ranging job portals, Steinmetz explains.

Careers platform for small professional groups - suitable job adverts at a glance

For actuaries, a platform that is specifically geared to their professional field offers many advantages: "The tedious search for suitable positions on numerous portals or on individual company websites can be avoided - actuaries can find suitable job offers on our website at a glance," says Steinmetz, which is why the decision was made many years ago to offer a specialist platform for actuaries. Initially, job postings were published as a series of PDFs on the association's own website, but as interest grew, the DAV founded the professional career search  platform www.actupool.com in September 2020.

Martin Lenz, CEO of Jobiqo, actupool's IT service provider, also sees great potential in specialized job boards. "We particularly enjoy working with organizations that represent specific industries. As actupool shows very well, specialist career search platforms offer candidates a much more relevant search result and far better career orientation than generic platforms. In addition, these jobs have much better visibility on specialist career search platforms. DAV's specific industry knowledge, which has been incorporated into the development of the platform, is the basis for a unique service that connects international experts in the industry with the most relevant companies for their needs. The trust that users have already built up in the DAV brand reinforces the effectiveness of the service. In the future, employers will find the right talent for their companies much more easily and quickly."
The career search platform offers not only better and faster search results for its users, but also numerous services: the possibility to apply via the platform saves time and work for applicants, individual job searches can be subscribed to via the job alert and companies can introduce themselves in company profiles and publish comprehensive information about their company and the benefits they offer.

Internationalisation of the job platform

The aim of the careers platform is to bundle international jobs for actuaries. "Many European and also non-European actuarial associations have so far offered their members little or no support in their job seeking. Via actupool, their own jobs can be integrated very easily and centrally and displayed on the association website. Furthermore, there are certainly actuaries who would like to work abroad, so it is of course an advantage if these jobs can also be found on the same platform," Steinmetz continues. Discussions about possible cooperation with other actuarial associations are already underway and the introduction of a French-language version will be implemented shortly. "We are very pleased that companies continue to appreciate our platform. Platform sponsor Allianz already advertises all its job adverts worldwide for actuaries on actupool," says Steinmetz.

Good networks with actuarial associations worldwide already exist thanks to the video platform www.actuview.com. Since 2019 actuview has been offering videos with actuarial content for the international actuarial community. "Because of our broad network, which we have been able to build through actuview, we can tie in ideally with actupool. We are working towards being able to communicate jobs from the most diverse corners of the world in the future and thus facilitate the process of finding a job for actuaries all over the world," says Steinmetz.
