Flexitime and sustainability - employers in transition

Where people used to work with slide rules between files, today complex problems are solved on the computer, in the office or even from home. Digitalization and coronavirus have changed the world of work forever. The wishes of future actuaries have also changed. In this article, ERGO explains how its Life Classic actuarial department has adapted its working methods to meet the new requirements.

Working in the actuarial department Life Classic (processing of portfolios in classic life insurance) is flexible. This applies not only to the time and place, but also to the tasks. After all, exciting, varied and complex topics guarantee mathematicians enjoy their work. In Actuarial Life Classic, the focus is on working out creative solutions on your own and taking responsibility for your results - whether it's writing new specialist concepts or programming computers. Almost all tasks require targeted training: problems should be understood and analyzed in depth, and an accurate solution counts more than a quickly developed work-around.

Flexible work times

Working from home from time to time is possible, as is flexible time management with flexitime. Nothing stands in the way of a jog during your lunch break, a visit to the vet in the early afternoon or the combining work and family life. With the right arrangements, many things are possible. A strong team spirit and communication skills have always been important but are becoming increasingly crucial for employees and employers alike due to the many new ways of exchanging information.

For newcomers to the profession, there is an individual induction program, which is based on prior knowledge and is supported by a manager. Regular feedback meetings are also held afterwards to set the course for further professional development. In addition, ERGO supports all kinds of professional and personal qualifications and further training. Training to become a DAV actuary, for example, is fully financed, including time off for seminars and exams. In addition, there are numerous internal training programs for project management or management positions. The transfer of the company's own life insurance portfolios to a new, modern IT platform and support for the migration and administration of third-party portfolios also offers numerous opportunities for new topics and challenges.

Sustainable and fit for the future

Sustainability and diversity are not just buzzwords but are practiced at ERGO: The company pursues committed climate targets and develops sustainable and innovative insurance solutions. Diverse networks represent the interests of employees and promote a diverse working environment. In addition, the "Succeed - Women in Leadership" initiative is specifically aimed at promoting women to management positions. In addition to work, there are benefits such as company sports and health promotion programs, employee discounts on ERGO products, subsidies for canteens and many other "benefits".

Anyone who wants to find out more about ERGO as an employer can do so easily: The company is active on various social media channels such as LinkedIn or Instagram and is regularly represented at trade fairs, congresses and recruiting events.
